Victoria McDONALD
b. 1981, Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Studied Art & Design at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Currently living and working in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England.
I love to experiment with subject matter, painting techniques and materials.
My earlier work (school and university) was heavily influenced by Pop Art and the Neo-Expressionist art movement of 1980's America.
Andy WARHOL and my favourite artist, Jean-Michel BASQUIAT were responsible for my love of bold, bright, often brash artworks.
Since then my desire has been to become more "loose and spontaneous" with my personal developed style of painting, which is constantly evolving.
Recently I have been creating mixed media abstract pieces of varying sizes, using a palette knife to primarily apply the paint, then utilising everyday objects to experiment with mark making.
Continual themes in my work are: Experimentation, spontaneity, fluidity, colour, shape, texture, created with measured & accidental mark making.
I have previously exhibited my works at "The Art Works Gallery" and "The Mushroom Works" which are both situated in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne
